Understanding The Concept of ReadyBoost from Win 7

ReadyBoost win 7ReadyBoost is a tool of Microsoft Windows, first came with Windows Vista in and also work in Windows 7. It can be used with flash memory, USB 2.0 drive, SD card, CompactFlash or any kind of removable flash mass storage system as a drive for disk cache , you can enable readyboost from control panel

It is also used to facilitate SuperFetch, an updated version of Windows XP's prefetcher which performs analysis of boot-time disk usage patterns and creates a cache which is used in subsequent system boots.

Using ReadyBoost-capable flash memory for caching allows Windows 7 to service random disk reads with performance that is typically 80-100 times faster than random reads from traditional hard drives.

Just plug in a USB flash drive or card and ReadyBoost will use it as memory. ReadyBoost helps in low memory situation. Low memory can make your computer slow. Flash memory offers a speedier alternative.

Tips tricks to speed up win 7

When you plug a compatible device, the Windows Auto Play dialog gives an additional option to use the flash drive to speed up the system; an additional ReadyBoost tab is integrated to the drive's properties dialog where the amount of space to be used can be set.250 MB to 256 GB of flash memory can be assigned. ReadyBoost encrypts, with AES-128, and compresses all information that is stored on the flash device.

When you set up a device to work with ReadyBoost, Windows shows you the space recommended for an optimal performance. For ReadyBoost to effectively speed up your computer, the flash drive or memory card should have at least 1GB of available space. If you don’t have enough available space for ReadyBoost, you’ll see a message asking you to free some space on the device if you want to use it to speed up your system. You can enable or disable ReadyBoost for a specific flash drive or other removable storage device.

Follow the given guidelines to enable the readyboost in Windows 7:
  • Connect a flash drive or flash memory card into your computer.
  • In the Autoplay dialog box, under General options, click Speed up my system.
  • the Properties dialog box, click the ReadyBoost tab, and then do one of the following:
  • To turn ReadyBoost off, click Do not use this device.
  • To use the maximum available space on the flash drive or memory card for ReadyBoost, click Dedicate this device to ReadyBoost. Windows will leave any files already stored on the device, but it will use the rest to boost your system speed.
  • To use less than the maximum available space on the device for ReadyBoost, click Use this device, and then move the slider to choose the amount of available space on the device you want to use.
  • Click OK.
In order to use ReadyBoost following are the conditions:

•Windows 7 supports up to eight devices for a maximum of 256 GB of additional memory.
•The device must have an access time of 1 ms or less.

•The removable media's capacity must be at least 256 MB once formatted.

The device must be capable of 2.5 MB/s read speeds for 4 KB random reads spread uniformly across the entire device, and 1.75 MB/s write speeds for 512 KB random writes spread uniformly across the device.
